In many ways this reminded me of the school I went to, but at my school for both girls and boys, after a lengthy and humiliating wait in the corridor outside the study, the actual caning was swiftly and painfully delivered with little time between strokes to even catch your breath.

Probably not regulation punishment for the old days but if I was him I would have got the spreader bar out and a powerful toy. To ease the pain a little after the punishment of course.
